Some of the most strongest characters I have EVER read, Roland the Knight, Jake and Oy make this book great for me. I love them so freaking much!

And, the concept....


Can a bilateral amputee female be a hero?

Yes. And, a great one at that. She to was one of the most strongest characters I have ever read...

But

I won't put a pic of the real Suzanne/Odessa on my review, because, I did not like her. Man oh man, the way she was presented in this book(s)ODETTA/DETTA/SUZ, She is a black lady who suffered the hardship of prejudice that resulted in her becoming a below the knee amputee (BKA). Stephen King put's prejudice right out there in you face. You can't run you can't hide. You'll have to face the cause and effects in this book. It was harsh brutal and at times painful for me to read. As I never like to visualize a world with such hateful acts in my reads. Nevertheless it exists. Sigh.

So, what REALLY went wrong....well, her mouth was one thing, and, gosh, Lord have mercy she was carried in a sling on Roland's back through most of this book. Sigh....she needed to have those prosthetics just like the girl in my pic has on (abov) , Odessa was rich , she could afford them. And, gosh, they had them already invented in the timeframe this book was written.

"In 1863, Dubois Parmlee invented an advanced prosthesis with a suction socket, polycentric knee and multi-articulated foot"

Nonetheless, as the great Stephen King stated "Roland’s ka-tet—Eddie, Susannah, and Jake—have been drawn separately from troubled lives in New York into Roland’s Mid-World quest". and I love that concept too.

The writing style-

Good, but a little bit scattered. i somehow missed the extra characters in the first two books. But, the description writing was vivid .

The storyline & world-

A Knight and his quest for the black tower. An apocalyptic like journey with a keen touch.

“Did-a-chick? Dum-a-chum? Dad-a-cham? Ded-a-check?”

Wow, it was uniquiqe vivid, wild and crazy . Western, steampunk, futuristic, yet old. It feels hot and sticky, and at night it feels cool and breezy. The wasteland is the strongest and most vivid part within this world but, if that doesn't suit you...

This was my first Stephen King book, and I must say for me it was/is love at first sight/read. Places author in my fav💞

This is the 2nd of the 3 in the Dark Tower series. I have always appreciated how Stephen King can easily slide me into an alternate universe and this was did not disappoint.

Stephen King is best known for being a horror writer, covering everything from evil cars to telekinetic high-schoolers. But his magnum opus was the Dark Tower series, an epic gritty high-fantasy story strongly tinged with horror. "The Dark Tower, Books 1-3: The Gunslinger, The Drawing of the Three, and The Waste Lands" displays the strong first three parts of the series, sweeping you into the Midworld."The Gunslinger" introduces us to Roland Deschain of Gilead, the last gunslinger of a long-dead

The first three books in this series were written when Stephen King was young. The last three were written after his accident that nearly killed him. The first three are pure fun fiction. The second three are much more thought provoking. As it turns out the series would not have been as impactful if all six had been written at the same time. This is a huge investment in time, but well woeth the effort

I'm picking this option to save time in reviewing all three, because I believe the power comes from reading the three together more so than individually. The gunslinger series is one that my mind comes to over and over. Roland is a powerful character in my mind, no doubt because he's very much so a part of Kings. The first book is one of King's first, and it shows. However, in typical King fashion, it's the perfect character development for you to understand Roland as you progress to The Drawing

The Dark Tower series (1-7) is to me what the Harry Potter series is to some: by far the most rewarding long-term reading experience of my life. Stephen King says that it is his magnum opus and it a genre-smasher: part spaghetti western, fantasy journey, autobiography, with just a pinch of horror thrown in. He creates a world and fills it with great characters. He builds a language and uses it to talk about big ideas such as "Ka." Ka, a combination of the ideas of fate, destiny, and karma runs

I loved most of the entire series and read many of the books multiple times. However, I will never forgive him for the last 1 and a half chapters of the very last book. Imagine waiting all those years and getting that ending. I dramatically threw that last book across the room. I am prepared to re-enact the dramatic flinging in person for anyone who knows me. I finished this series years ago, hence this very short review.
