This isn't a wholly unbiased review, but I really loved Silent City. There's a great sense of Miami here the Miami tourists never see relatable characters, and a well-crafted mystery.

Good start to a series. Very interested to see how this character moves on from here.

Silent City is the first novel featuring Pete Fernandez. A fast paced mystery with compelling characters, set in steamy Miami, it hooks you in from the first chapters.

A fine first novel. Segura is working some kinks out with Fernandez here and it shows, but ultimately, this book is an accomplishment largely because of Segura's keen insights. Where the Pete's story goes from here is fascinating, as fans will see in Dangerous Ends that Segura is absolutely an author to watch. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

A very Rockford Files type of vibe here. Picked this up at Hudson's in New Jersey while waiting for the bus. Pete is the best/worst travelling companion a girl could ask for

A suspenseful, gritty detective story that beautifully captures the city of Miami's dark underworld and vibrant setting. And while the mystery is engaging, it's the main character, struggling alcoholic Pete Fernandez, that pushes the story through. I kept rooting for him every step of the way. Can't wait to read its sequels.

Nice Miami atmosphere but otherwise disappointing unless you enjoy spending time with an active drunk of a protagonist and watching the body count climb. The story reads as if the only ways to advance the plot are to kill off a character or have the on-again off-again ex-wife change her attitude one (or two or three) more times. Still, the potential is there for at least an average mystery series.
