Commentary Toward Books Fear and Misery of the Third Reich

Also known as The Private Life of the Master Race, this is a sequence of twenty-four realistic sketches showing how "ordinary" life under the Nazis was subtly permeated by suspicion and anxiety. Written when Brecht was in exile in Denmark and first staged in 1938 it was inspired in part by his recent trip to Moscow where he had been researching tasks for the anti-Nazi effort.

Judge Regarding Books Fear and Misery of the Third Reich
I hesitate to say I "liked" this book, due mostly to the subject matter and the way the author subtly insinuates the Nazi menace. Very uncomfortable to read, especially in hindsight, and you can see that the protagonists often do not know what to say or do to keep themselves safe; what is perfectly all right one day is cause for arrest or 'disappearance' the next.

"Um pequeno manto sempre cobriu a vilania. Só que agora ele é de fibra." (pág. 108)Um texto dramático extremamente destruidor.Uma manta feita de retalhos; das histórias daqueles que, em nome de um manto maior, se submeteram à prossecução de um plano que não era o seu, ao Terceiro Reich.É por isto, por concentrar tanto em tão pouco espaço, que Brecht será sempre um clássico dentro do género.

I just don't understand how some people can find this book interesting when really I dont think its a good play at all.Its badly written, its more of a dark farce then anything and for me it fails to capture what people in Germany were going through before the war began.Overrated play and not the slightest bit interesting.

I cannot wait to perform this play for my drama show !!!
