I don't get other reviewers saying this was well written or such a thriller - I totally disagree. I admit that I am not a fan of paranormal stuff, although in a well-done book it seems to flow naturally and is therefore acceptable. Sure didn't happen here. This is the second book in the series, the first I have read, but I won't be reading another.

I thought the characters were flat - not well-rounded at all. The dialogue was boring and the plot line was ridiculous. The truth is that I couldn't get interested in any of these characters or what happened to them. There wasn't a build toward a climax or suspense. If I had been reading out loud, it would have been a monotone.

What irked me the most was the terrible editing. It sounded like it was written by a sixth grader and the editor didn't clean it up at all or cut out the unnecessary parts. The worst thing was the jumping from past tense to present tense - sometimes even in the same sentence! As an English teacher, I would mark every one of those errors with a bright red pen. And, unfortunately, there would be red all over this book.

Even when I don't like a book, I try to find the positive and see what it is that other people might enjoy about the book. Sorry. I can't find anything here that I can even pretend to like.

This is the second book in the BL Hoffman series. I really enjoyed the intrigue and mystery. Hard to put down.

This is the second book in the series. They are YA books. Good story, well written.

I can't believe I read Mystery at Shadow Lake and Escape from Shadow Lake. I really like both these books and then it hit me these were written for teens. But I didn't care they both had a good story plot and mystery now I need the 3rd in the series Return to Shadow Lake but it isn't available on Nook yet.

I liked both books in this series, however, I am not a fan of the cliff hanger endings. This book was better than the first as in wrapped up the loose ends much better. I agree with other comments that it is a good book for teens, but also an enjoyable read for adults.

I did enjoy this one as much as the 1st. I just wish There was a little bit more...Maybe in #3?
