Write Up Epithetical Books Stormrider (The Rigante #4)

David Gemmell is now on my favorite authors list. Im glad I started on this series of Gemmell books. This book made me want to read the first 3 books again just for history fact checks lol. Great read and adventure. Love the world building and the unforgettable characters.

Just finished the last book in the Rigante series. And yet again I love another of David Gemmells books. Stormrider takes place a few years after the ending of Ravenheart, and shares many of the same characters, but also has some new major additions. One being the main antagonist, Winter Kay.Civil war has occurred with the Varlish and many people from Ravenheart such as Gaise Macon have been drawn into the turmoil. The war seems to be coming to a close, but no one knows what will happen next.

David Gemmell has a gift for writing simply, rationally, and yet beautifully. I have read almost every single novel he has published, and although this one isn't my favorite or most recommended, it is the only one to make me cry. Oddly, it wasn't a main characters death or a stirring speech that got to me; it was the actions of two brothers, doing what was right, that got to me.Now others may not be so moved by it as I was, and that's fine. But as far as I'm concerned, this novel is a stirring

The Rigante's tale comes to a conclusion in this book which brings to the forefront a new antagonist. Cernunnos, an ancient Seidh who desires the eradication of all humans. While this stands well alone, it takes place shortly after Ravenheart & has many of the same characters. I'd highly recommend reading it first. Gemmel is a master of writing a character driven story. While the setting, action, & magic are well done, the characters are what really shine. There are good guys & bad; some swap places as they grow & events shape them. Often these changes are against all odds if viewed from a distance, but make perfect sense as the particulars become

Sometimes like now I wonder if reading Gemmell is an extreme masochistic act. Finishing this I feel a great deal of despair and pain and only a little joy. So really read it, it's great.PS. Never thought I'd say this but the Moidart may be one of the best characters ever created.
