Wothlondia Rising is a superb collection of origin stories that kick off the events that follows. I was intrigued by Gary F. Vanucci's style especially in a fantasy universe. It brought a fresh, action packed, and emotional driven theme that we in this generation love. His array of characters each have a life of their own and in fact they are so different it makes the story so much better. I've become a fan of Garius Forge, Saeunn, Orngoth, and the Three Elderly Leaders. Every one of them isWow! Here is an amazing book, worth far more than the price tag would let you think! Gary F. Vanucci is a great story teller, he has created an intricate world of warriors, magicians, elves, evils and monsters, and much more! Wothlondia Rising is a series of novels which plant the decor and present the main characters of Covenant of the Faceless Knights: some major events in their past have changed them forever. Thus Ive found that this anthology gives a better understanding on how they act in
A prequel to The Realm of Ashenclaw series. The reader is introduced to Rose Thorne, Elec Stormwhisper and Orngoth. Background to these characters is provided which sets them up for their purposes and motivations in the series. This author has excellent world and character building skills, and brings those characters to life. The fighting and action scenes are exciting, and the book is fast-paced and fun to read.
Rating: 7 out of 10Wothlondia Rising was a good start to what might be a great series. I like Vanuccis writing, but I dont particularly like short stories. Every time I was getting to know and like a character, it would switch to the story of a different character with a different storyline. Because of this, I believe that the next books in the series could be a lot better, but they will have to go more in depth with the characters for me to like them. It's possibly entirely my fault that I read this as a single novella before realising it's an anthology of short stories.Then again, nothing in this anthology really made me interested in reading the rest of this Wothlondia saga.
I really enjoyed the second in the series, and the first was no different. However, it might have been a mistake to read the second first. Because of what I know in the second book, this one felt more like a prequel than the first in the series.
Mr. Vanucci has successfully caught my attention. Wothlondia Rising is a series of shorts, where the writer now's when to stop,and leaves you wanting more. So, i'm about to get tucked into the next book in the series, and blissfully leave the mundane world behind and enjoy the wonderful new universe that Mr. Vanucci has created.
